Water labor in a hospital

In a 2014 global survey of birth professionals, British Midwife, Dianne Garland , assessed the major obstacles to the implementation of water birth practices.
The top four impediments were:

1. Lack of training.
2. No budgets for equipment.
3. Creating protocols and consents.
4. Finding the most current research to convince colleagues.

This page is for the purpose of posting relevant articles, sample protocols, informed consents, published guidelines.
Interesting and timely articles on subjects that are covered in the Waterbirth Certification Course for Professionals will also be posted.

If you need assistance in your search for research or guidelines for water immersion in labor and birth, send us a message.

We are happy to work with you to advance the mission of Waterbirth International, which is to insure that water birth is an available option for all women.

We urge you to participate in gathering your retrospective data as well as creating your own prospective studies. We can help you with both of those tasks.  The amount of research on labor and birth in water has increased over the past 20 years, adding to the already existing early studies. The amount and quality of research is necessary to dispel the doubts and to insure safe and effective practices.
